Akpabio's Successor, Ekpeyong Sworn In As Senator Again

Senate President Ahmad Lawan has sworn in Christopher Ekpeyong as senator representing Akwa Ibom North West.

Ekpeyong was sworn in on Thursday after defeating Godswill Akpabio in a rerun election held on January 25.

Akpabio, who is the minister of Niger Delta Affairs, had petitioned the courts on Ekpeyong’s victory.

The appeal court granted his plea and ordered a rerun. But Akpabio said he was no longer interested in the election, a request which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) rejected.
