JUST IN: Gov Ganduje Suspends Ban Of Male, Female On Same Tricycle

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has reportedly suspended an order barring persons of opposite genders from boarding same commercial tricycles across the state from January 2020, Igbere TV reports.

The governor is said to have suspended the order following public outcry.

Commander General of Hisbah Board, Harun Ibn-Sina, had announced the ban last Wednesday at the closing ceremony of 77th annual Islamic Vacation Course (IVC) organised by Zone A of Muslim Society of Nigeria (MSSN) held at Bayero University, Kano.

Reports gathered by Igbere TV say Ganduje went into “wide consultations and extensive deliberation with top government officials on their views on how to implement the law.”

It was further said that the governor was advised not to implement the law nor make any statement about it considering the volatility of the situation on ground.

Kano State Government is yet to officially respond to the rumours.

Former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau introduced commercial tricycles known as ‘A daidaita sahu’ in Kano during his administration as means of transportation for women only.

Shekarau also banned commercial motorcyclists from conveying women.

However, since Shekarau’s departure, commercial tricyclists began conveying people of both genders.
