3 Arrested Over Murder Of Olakitan Oyesiku And Her Security Guard In Ogun

The Ogun state police command says three suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of veteran broadcaster Olakitan Oyesiku and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.

Bode Ojajuni, commissioner of police in Ogun, announced the arrests on Thursday at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, the state capital.

Ojajuni said the breakthrough followed intelligence-led investigations, technical tracking of Oyesiku’s missing Lexus RX 330 SUV, and forensic analysis of a handwritten note recovered from the crime scene.

The police commissioner said the incident was reported on June 21 after neighbours noticed suspicious activity at Oyesiku’s residence.

According to him, officers who responded to the report found Adetayo’s body in the security house and Oyesiku’s body in the living room.

He added that the front door appeared to have been forced open, while the victim’s vehicle was missing.

Ojajuni said detectives recovered the stolen Lexus on June 22 in the Onikolobo area of Abeokuta.

While noting that the vehicle’s number plates had been removed and the ignition key was missing.

However, one of the registration plates was found hidden under a seat, helping investigators confirm ownership.

The police commissioner identified the principal suspect as Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, 22, who, according to him, was arrested on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta.

He said subsequent operations led to the arrest of Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36.

Ojajuni said Philip confessed to recruiting the other suspects and planning the attack over a personal grievance stemming from his previous employment as a security guard at Oyesiku’s residence.

He alleged that the suspects attacked Adetayo to gain access to the house before killing both victims and fleeing with Oyesiku’s Lexus SUV.

He added that operatives recovered a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank and other items believed to be connected to the crime.

Ojajuni said investigations are ongoing and assured that all those linked to the incident would be prosecuted.

“The Command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served and that all persons connected with this heinous crime are brought to book,” he said.
