BREAKING: Appeal Court Sacks Reps Majority Leader, Orders Fresh Polls

The Court of Appeal in Kaduna has sacked the House of Representatives’ majority leader, Alhassan Doguwa.

In a unanimous judgement on Monday led by Justice Oludotun Adefope-Okojie, the court nullified the entire election in the two local government areas in Tudunwada/Doguwa Federal Constituency which Mr Doguwa represents at the National Assembly, Igbere TV reports.

The court also ordered fresh elections in the constituency within 90 days from the time of judgement, Igbere TV reports.

The election petition tribunal sitting in Kano had on September 5 dismissed a petition filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Yusha’u Salisu, against Doguwa’s election.

The tribunal said the PDP candidate failed to prove allegations of irregularities and over-voting in the election.

Upturning the tribunal’s judgement, the appellate court ruled that the entire election could not stand as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had omitted other parties from the final declaration of the result.

The court said INEC made a substantial breach by writing the results of only two parties out of 53 parties that participated in the election in Form EC 8 (II) E.

Last week, another House member from Kano, Abdulmumin Jibrin, was also sacked by the appeal court.
