Salah Faces Religious Dilemma If Liverpool Reaches Champions League Final.

Premier League sensation, Mohammed Salah faces a religious dilemma if Liverpool reach the Champions League final. Salah is a practising Muslim and the Islamic festival of  Ramadan, which requires fasting  during daylight hours for a month, begins on May 15  — ten days before the Kiev showdown.

Mo Salah

Shawki Allam, the Grand Mufti of Egypt, has given permission to Salah and his international team-mates in the Egyptian squad to postpone their fasting in the days building up to the World Cup.

But Salah and his fellow Muslims in the Liverpool dressing room — Sadio Mane and Emre Can — will have a decision to make if the Reds reach the final: risk their physical condition by denying themselves food and drink, or fail to observe “sawm” (fasting during Ramadan), one of the five pillars of Islam, for the sake of football.

And there is no reason to believe Salah, whose name means “worship” in Arabic, will go against his faith.

He admitted in 2014 he had found observing Ramadan difficult to combine with pre-season training at Chelsea.

Salah said: “Ramadan was a bit difficult for me because we had two training sessions every day, the weather was very hot and I played in every game

“I wasn’t even able to drink water until 9.30pm. Although I am used to it, it’s finished now and I can eat and drink as normal.

“When you train twice a day, your energy levels drop by the second session, but it means a lot to me so I’m very happy and I feel good.”

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp revealed in an interview with Channel 4 News how Salah, Mane and Can maintain their faith while being professional footballers.

Klopp said: “Salah is a Muslim. He’s doing all the things that Muslims do.

“Before a game, washing procedures and stuff like that. “We come a minute or two minutes early in the dressing room so that he can be ready for the game. It’s him, Sadio and Emre Can.”

I’m Proud To Be Your Last Record Signing – Aubameyang Tells Wenger

Earlier today, Arsene Wenger revealed he decision to step step down at the end of the Campaign.

A football team is like a beautiful woman, Arsene Wenger quotes

AFP Sport picks out ten Arsene Wenger quotes after the 68-year-old Frenchman announced he would be stepping down at the end of the season after almost 22 years in charge:

On the ‘Invincibles’ “To remain unbeaten in a championship like the English championship now is really unbelievable. I want to win the Champions League but, really, this is more important. It is something amazing, something special. How can you do it?”

— A justifiably proud Wenger after his ‘Invincibles’, including French stars Thierry Henry and Robert Pires, went through the 2003/04 Premier League season unbeaten, only the second side after Preston North End in 1888/89 to achieve that feat. – On the British diet “What’s really dreadful is the diet in Britain. The whole day you drink tea with milk and coffee with milk and cakes. If you had a fantasy world of what you shouldn’t eat in sport, it’s what you eat here.” — Wenger, used to the healthier diet of Japan, where he coached before taking over at Arsenal, lashes out at British dietary habits. – On Mourinho’s ‘voyeur’ jibe “He’s out of order, disconnected with reality and disrespectful. When you give success to stupid people, it makes them more stupid sometimes and not more intelligent.” — Wenger has had fiery relationships with Jose Mourinho and Alex Ferguson, eschewing the tradition of having a drink with his opposite number after the match. Here he reacts furiously to Mourinho remarking in 2005 that Wenger was a “voyeur” for constantly talking about Chelsea. – On women “A football team is like a beautiful woman. When you do not tell her, she forgets she is beautiful.” — Renowned for his team’s attractive style of play, Wenger draws a parallel between his side and beautiful women. – On being a scapegoat “I’m ready to take the blame for all the problems of English football if that is what he wants.” — Wenger sarcastically hits back at Alex Ferguson’s criticism in 2007 that Arsenal had few home grown players. – On his holistic approach “We try to go a different way that, for me, is respectable. Briefly, these are the basics. I thought: We are building a stadium, so I will get young players in early so I do not find myself exposed on the transfer market without the money to compete with the others. I build a team, and we compensate by creating a style of play, by creating a culture at the club because the boy comes in at 16 or 17 and when they go out they have a supplement of soul, of love for the club, because they have been educated together. The people you meet at college from 16 to 20, often those are the relationships in life that keep going. That, I think, will give us strength that other clubs will not have.” — Wenger reveals his team-building philosophy in 2006, reluctant to splash the cash like rival clubs as the Gunners invested in the construction of the Emirates. – On ‘parking the bus’ “I don’t know what you mean by parking the bus. I don’t know who created this expression but it has not a lot to do with football.” — Wenger rejects out of hand any suggestion he would ever revert to a defensive strategy. – On Nicolas Anelka “No matter how much money you earn, you can only eat three meals a day and sleep in one bed.” — Wenger on turbulent striker Nicolas Anelka, who engineered a big-money move to Real Madrid aged just 20. Anelka was to stay just one season in Spain and later said he wished he had remained at the Gunners. – On Mourinho, again “It is fear to fail.” — Wenger’s verdict on Mourinho’s unwillingness to talk up Chelsea’s title chances in February 2014. – On his gardener “I said ‘Good afternoon’ and he replied, ‘I’m your gardener at your house’. I didn’t even know him. I do have a big garden.” — Wenger talking about an incident last season when he was serving a touchline ban and ended up sitting beside his gardener at Stamford .

Arsène Wenger To Leave Arsenal At The End Of The Season

Arsène Wenger will leave Arsenal at the end of the season, bringing to an end a trophy-laden but also increasingly fractious 22-year association between the Frenchman and the club.

Arsenal made the surprise announcement on Friday morning and after Wenger had informed the squad of his decision during training ahead of their home match against West Ham on Sunday. Wenger signed a fresh two-year contract extension last summer and while there was speculation the 68-year-old would leave halfway though that deal, few thought confirmation of that would arrive before the conclusion of the current campaign, especially with a Europa League semi-final against Atlético Madrid to come.

“After careful consideration and following discussions with the club, I feel it is the right time for me to step down at the end of the season,” said Wenger in a statement posted on Arsenal’s website. “I am grateful for having had the privilege to serve the club for so many memorable years.

“I managed the club with full commitment and integrity. I want to thank the staff, the players, the Directors and the fans who make this club so special. I urge our fans to stand behind the team to finish on a high. To all the Arsenal lovers take care of the values of the club. My love and support for ever.”

Wenger was a relative unknown in this country when he was appointed Arsenal’s manager in September 1996. But having led the club to the double in his first full season in charge, he quickly became viewed as a revolutionary figure, introducing sophisticated methods to the preparation and well-being of players as well as tapping into the overseas market to sign relatively unheraled players such as Patrick Vieria and Emmanuel Petit who turned out to be world-class talents and part of one of the most thrilling, eye-catching teams ever seen on these shores.

Another double followed in 2002 before the Invincibles campaign, when Arsenal won the 2003-2004 title without losing a single game. Two years later, Wenger led Arsenal to the Champions League final, which they lost to Barcelona, and that ultimately proved to be the beginning of the end as far as his reputation as one of the leading managerial figures in this country was concerned.

Since 2006, the only trophy Arsenal have won has been the FA Cup, albeit on three occasions, while their displays in the Champions League have become increasingly poor, the nadir being their 10-2 aggregate defeat to Bayern Munich last year. Wenger’s defence of this has, in part, included the financial restrictions he has had to work under as a consequence of Arsenal moving to the Emirates Stadium 12 years ago but this line of reasoning has increasingly worn thin with supporters, especially given Arsenal’s increased financial mite in recent years.

Premier League: Why I didn’t do well at Chelsea – Mohamed Salah

Egyptian international, Mohamed Salah has explained why he struggled in the Premier League while at Chelsea.

He said he was not given the chance to do well at Stamford Bridge.

After being signed from Basel for £11million in 2014, Salah spent a season-and-a-half at Stamford Bridge, scoring twice in 19 appearances.

He was sold to Roma for less than half of his initial valuation.

He told Sky Sports, “I know from the first day I wanted to do something different, something special.

“I was here with Chelsea, didn’t get my chance, and then came back. I wanted to show everyone my football. ‘I didn’t play

You can see by the numbers. I didn’t have my chance, but you can see when I did get my chance I proved some people wrong.

“Because in my mind I have to succeed here, when I left the Premier League I said I’d come back, and when I had the chance, I came.

“You can see the difference [in me] between now, a year before, two years before that. Every year, every day, every month I am proving myself. I always try to see my weakness, work on it, to be better as a person and a player, everything

“You can see my body now is different than before, my finishing is different, I am more comfortable on the pitch and am trying to improve every day

I think I have had a great season, doing very well with the team, fighting to be in the top positions, second or third. I can’t forget what the team give me, the way we play, the way they support me inside and outside of the pitch.”

Congolese Federation of Association Football (FECOFA) president Constant Omari has been arrested on corruption charges in Kinshasa. Omari is also a vice-president of the African Football Confederation and has been a member of FIFA’s all-powerful Council since 2015.

The most powerful man in football in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Omari was arrested late on Tuesday along with two other FECOFA officials, Theobald Binamungu and chief financial officer Roger Bondembe, and the country’s secretary general for sport Barthelemy Okito.

Local reports suggest a fifth man, the president of Congo’s Olympic committee, is also wanted but is on the run and the investigation relates to more than £700,000 of government money that was meant to pay for matches involving the national team and club sides in continental competition.

In response to the arrests, Congo’s national league, Linafoot, has taken the dramatic decision to suspend its championship.

In a statement on its website, Linafoot said the quartet were questioned by the “office of the special adviser to the president in the fight against corruption, Luzolo Bambi”.

It added that those arrested are “suspected of misappropriation of funds intended for the DRC football teams”.

Premier League: Mourinho tells Manchester United to sell Pogba

Pogba’s relationship with his Portuguese manager has hit a new low after the former Chelsea boss substituted the Frenchman during the defeat to West Brom on Sunday.

The defeat handed the Premier League title to Manchester City earlier than expected.

It is not the first time Mourinho has lost faith in Pogba this season.

He has repeatedly been dropped by Mourinho this season.

And Daily Mail UK reports that Mourinho has finally decided to let the Frenchman leave the club.

The newspaper claimed that Mourinho wants to sell Pogba, although there is set to be resistance from the United board.

Ed Woodward will not want to sell a player United paid a club record transfer fee of £89million to sign just two years ago.

The 25-year-old midfielder has struggled to fit into Mourinho’s system and follow his manager’s instructions.

The Nigerian wrestler started by rolling along the mat to the edge, was picked up by her coach and carried back into the middle, and just as the ref was about to raise her arm, Oborududu dropped to the mat and began rolling around again.

Oborududu was still screaming as the ref called for the pair to shake hands. Her opponent, Lappage was less impressed, before walking away as Oborududu appeared to open her arms for a hug.

Nigerian Medalists At The Commonwealth Games Desperate To Meet Buhari

After we have done Nigeria proud, we will like to see our President. Most of us are graduates but we are unemployed, we want to see President Muhammadu Buhari because we know he can make us smile for what we have done for Nigeria.”

These were the words of Lucy Ejike, captain of the Powerlifting team to Australia who returned with 4 gold medals and 2 silvers with just 6 athletes.

Despite settling for a silver medal and conceding her world title to her compatriot Esther Oyema in the women lightweight division, she said she is still over the moon as the captain because the gold still came to a Nigerian.

Meanwhile, the new Women’s Para Powerlifting World record holder Esther Oyema, MON, and Commonwealth gold medalist Rowland Ezuruike  want an audience with President Muhammadu Buhari after winning gold on Day 6 of the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia

Oyema who lifted 131kg  in the Women’s lightweight final to set a new world record said that meeting President Buhari will be a dream come true.

“I feel so excited because it was like a film to me. I was anxious about winning gold at the Commonwealth Games because after the Paralympic Games in Rio, I went to rest. I had to start the process of cutting down on my body weight because I was already in the heavyweight class and I knew I needed a lot of hard work to shed about 10kg. My coach Pat Ibite encouraged me so I started training for it. If I didn’t work on my body weight, I wouldn’t have set a new World record today.

“Today I have made sacrifices to make my country proud. I have won Gold and set a 3rd World record. I will like to meet President Muhammadu Buhari and I want him to make us proud too.”

Oyema said that one of the greatest challenges of physically challenged athletes was lack of recognition despite setting World records and called on the President to pat them on the back accordingly.

Man Invades Pitch To Kiss Cristiano Ronaldo After Embarrassing Defeat With Portugal

Cristiano Ronaldo was given a kiss by a pitch invader during Portugal’s 3-0 defeat by Holland on Monday night. Portugal were already three goals down when Joao Cancelo received a second yellow card and was sent off during the friendly.

As the game was about to restart following Cancelo’s dismissal, a number of fans raced onto the pitch at Stade de Geneve in Switzerland.

One supporter – clearly very fond of Ronaldo – ran up to the Real Madrid star and planted a kiss on his left cheek.

Ronaldo looked nonplussed about the man’s gesture before he was substituted in the 67th minute – even then one fan tried to grab him for a photograph as he walked to the players’ tunnel.

It was a disappointing night overall for Ronaldo and his Portugal team-mates.

Expected to beat Holland, they appeared lethargic and went behind when Memphis Depay scored after 11 minutes.

Former Liverpool player Ryan Babel doubled Holland’s lead not long before Virgil van Dijk applied a calm finish in first-half stoppage time.

Wayne Rooney Spotted With His Wife For The First Time Since Drinking Scandal

Coleen and Wayne Rooney have been spotted on a night out together in Cheshire. The couple posed for a selfie with a fan as they attended the Opulent travel services launch at Victors in Hale, Cheshire. It’s the first time they’ve been seen together since Coleen’s raw Facebook post when she forgave her husband for his drink-driving shame.

Coleen – who recently gave birth to fourth son Cass – welcomed Wayne back into the family fold after a boozy night with party girl Laura Simpson last August.

Laura has previously hinted that she and Wayne were ready and willing to do more than just talk when they met on a night out. The two met in a club and inebriated Wayne then decided to take her VW Beetle for a spin, but was pulled over by cops and breathalised.

When he pleaded guilty to drive-driving at a later court date, he was banned from driving for two years and sentenced to 100 hours of unpaid community work.

His marriage came under strain as a result, with pregnant Coleen jetting off on holiday with their sons and her parents and taking off her wedding ring, while a sombre Wayne was shuttled to and from his Everton training by a chauffeur.

But in a raw and emotional Facebook post in November, Coleen said she’d forgiven Wayne for his indiscretion – even though she thought their relationship was over.

“I’m not taking Wayne back as he’s never left,” she wrote.”Yes, it has been a s**t time, and yes, time was spent apart and I thought my marriage might have been at an end.”

She went on: “Wayne doesn’t get portrayed for the person he is in the press, he has always had a hard time.

“I’m not going to list his good qualities as a person as I don’t think he deserves it at this time but one thing is that he is a brilliant dad. He’s made silly and selfish mistakes, some he’s learnt from, some obviously not. However maybe that will change?”

Coleen ended her post by asking people not to judge her private life by what they read about her.

Injured Neymar Steps Up His Recovery As He Prepares For World Cup. Photos

In another video the ex-Barcelona man’s foot is undergoing a treatment from his personal doctor, captioning it: “Second session of today.”

Neymar had surgery on his fifth metatarsal earlier this month after fracturing the bone in a match against Marseille on February 25.

The PSG ace is currently in his native Brazil as he recovers from the operation, and is receiving treatment on his foot under the supervision of specialists from the French club and the Brazilian Football Federation.

Brazil star Neymar is aiming to return in time to represent his country at this year’s World Cup.

The five-time World Cup champions play their first match of the tournament on June 17 against Switzerland.

Ghanaian Player, Micheal Essien Suffers Latest Snub After Being Released By Club

Ghanaian footballer, Micheal Essien joined Indonesian top-flight club Persib Bandung last year to become the country’s highest-profile footballer of all time. He scored five goals in 29 games last season for the Liga 1 outfit.

The 35-year-old Chelsea great won the Champions League, two Premier League titles, four FA Cups and the League Cup during nine years at Stamford Bridge.

However Persib have now released Essien after filling their maximum quota of foreign players with a series of close-season signings.

Club chief executive Zainuri Hasyim said: “Essien was not among the players we launched for the new season, because we wanted to fulfill the PSSI [Indonesian FA] regulation of four foreign players in a team.”

The news is a humiliating snub to the Accra-born midfield powerhouse, who has won 58 Ghana caps.

However local media reports claim Essien is set to be thrown a career lifeline by Persib’s league rivals Bali United, based in Indonesia’s tourist paradise.

Ex-Chelsea star, Gallas backs Hazard, Courtois to dump club for Real Madrid

Former Chelsea defender, William Gallas has reacted to reports linking the Blues forward, Eden Hazard and goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid.

Hazard and Courtois will likely move to the La Liga Champions in the summer, and the ex-France international believes that the Blues may simply have to accept that the two regular starters want to try their luck elsewhere.

Williams, who said Chelsea can get a replacement for Hazard and Courtois, stated that the Premier League Champions need to accept the fact that players will one day leave the club.

“To be honest, you have got so many great players in the world, so if Hazard and Courtois have to leave, you can find a good goalkeeper to replace Courtois,” Gallas told Goal.

“You have good wingers who can replace Eden Hazard. That’s the job of the scouts to find the right players.

“Sometimes you have to accept that your best players have to leave or want to leave. Maybe because they want to play in a different league. Maybe because they have already won the FA Cup, Premier League and Carabao Cup.

“I don’t think they have won the Champions League with Chelsea. So maybe that’s why they want to leave and go to another club. You have to ask the question which team they supported when they were kids.

“So many kids will say: ‘I used to support Real Madrid’ or ‘I used to support Barcelona’.

“You have to accept it. You don’t have to be upset because he has played for Chelsea for many years. All the time, he was playing with that blue shirt and giving everything for that club.”

The Brazilian international sealed what was a shocking world transfer this past summer when he joined PSG from Barcelona for a fee in the region of 222 million euros.

The 25-year-old has been in impressive form since he joined PSG, finding the back of the net as many as 28 times in all competitions and assisting 16 times on the way.

The report added that Neymar, who is currently injured, expressed his disappointment with the quality of Ligue 1.
