Plot To Probe Oshiomole Thickens, See The Court Order Obtain Against His Immediate Probes

An anti-corruption crusader, Bishop Osadolor Ochei, Thursday asked a Federal High Court in Abuja for an order of mandamus compelling the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to commence criminal proceedings against former Edo state governor and National Chairmanship aspirant, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole on alleged corruption.

He filed an ex-parte motion marked FHC/ABJ/CS/628/2018 praying the court to order EFCC to put Oshiomole on trial followed the Bishop’s petition to the EFCC, dated October 28, 2016 ‎against the former governor of Edo state, from November 2008 to November 11, 2016.

The applicant, in the fresh motion, wants the court to declare that the anti-graft agency has the statutory duty to investigate and prosecute the former governor, upon his allegations against him in line with Act, establishing the commission.

In an affidavit deposed personally by the applicant, he averred that, in view of the fact that corruption has become a societal ill which has eaten deep into the fabric of the society, there is the need for the EFCC to take complaints against corrupt practices serious.

He said he has severally complained to the EFCC about allegation of corrupt practices against Oshiomhole without eliciting any response or interest by the commission.

According to him, “On May 4, 2012, one Matthew Edaghese sent a petition to the EFCC, complaining that while serving as governor, Oshiomhole built mansions on a huge expanse of land worth more than N10 billion, in excess of the former governor’s legitimate means of income as governor.

‎”That EFCC did nothing about the petition”, Bishop Ochei stated, adding that he had in 2016 filed a petition against Oshiomhole’s corrupt practices without any action by the EFCC.”

He accused the former governor of corruptly enriching himself with the fund of the Edo state government.

No date has yet been fixed for hearing of the ex-parte motion before chief judge of the federal high court, Justice Abdul Kafarati.

Stop glorifying thieves, Treat them with disdain Buhari sends a strong message to Muslims to end Ramadan fasting

Buhari has called on Nigerians to practise the virtues of Islam beyond the fasting season.

Besides, they should not separate religion and morality because, in the President’s view, doing so will encourage corrupt leaders.

In his message to mark the end of the Ramadan fasting, Buhari congratulated Muslims on the completion of “this spiritually significant month of sacrifice”.

He urged them to reflect on the importance of Ramadan by becoming good ambassadors of Islam at all times.

The President, in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said: ”Religion should be the moral compass for all believers in their public and personal lives.

If people allow the teachings of their religions to influence their conducts, problems, such as corruption, which diverts public funds to private pockets, would have been eliminated in the society.”

Buhari regretted, however, that “selfishness and greed have overcome people’s conscience so much that they don’t have moral inhibitions in the pursuit of their greed”.

The President said: “It is impossible to separate morality from religion, and removing this connection encourages corrupt leaders and other exploiters to commit atrocities against the society.

I always wonder why any true believer, be they politicians, civil servants or businessmen, would seek to make profits from the misfortunes of others,” Buhari added.

“We’ll Fence Nigeria, Change Nigeria’s Name & Currency After Defeating Buhari” – JMPP

Justice Must Prevail Party (JMPP) on Thursday said if elected into power in 2019, it would construct perimeter fence around Nigeria and change the name of the country and the currency.

Acting National Chairman of the Party, Dr Olusegun Ijagbemi, stated this at a news conference in Abuja.

He said that the need to change the name of the country and its currency was divinely revealed to the leadership of the party, adding that the changes were important if Nigeria must make progress.

According to Ijagbemi, “the 14th pillar of our party is to change the name of Nigeria to Pisonia and its currency from Naira to Pison.

“It is a miracle that the leadership of this party got a wind of how the entire African nation is being impoverished with their currency.”

“There are people outside Nigeria printing our currency and they have agents among us, including our political leaders.

“They are printing money and they have agents in CBN and throughout Africa. We brought this information to Nigeria that they are destroying our economy,’’ he said.

The chairman added that about six months ago, the CBN revealed to the National Assembly that more than 20 per cent of Nigeria’s currency was fake.

Ijagbemi said that promoting citizens’ welfare and security of lives and property would be one of the major concerns of the party, if elected.

He said that the party would use technology to monitor the country’s borders and that security forces would be highly motivated.

“This party is going to fence Nigeria and create only regulated route for people to come in and go out of the country.

“You can no longer move boys or girls across the border with trailer and then say you have captured or recovered them.

“There will be no need for people sleeping with their hearts panting. You cannot just come into the country, invade it and steal our oil.’’

Ijagbemi stated that JMPP government would strengthen the immigration laws, and that border control would be exercised maximally.

He said that citizenship laws would also be reviewed to meet the exigencies of current happenings in the world.

Ijagbemi decried the level of unemployment in the country, saying it was unacceptable, “considering the fact that the nation was reputed as one of the richest in the world in human and natural resources’’.

To address the challenge, he said that JMPP would equip Technical Colleges and Polytechnics to provide high-level manpower to form the backbone of technological and industrial development.

“The party will also encourage the formation of new industries in line with modern technological trends using the products of the revamped technical schools and polytechnics.

“Skills development centres will be established in all local government councils of the country,” he stated,

Meet Falmata Abubakar, Shekau’s Mother Speaks On Whereabout Of Boko Haram Leader

Driving west from the city of Maiduguri, Nigeria, the roads get narrower as the towns get smaller. Along the road lie bullet-ridden buildings and security check points as vigilante members patrol gates, all signs of a region where people are trying their best to protect themselves.

After three hours VOA ends up in Yobe state, at a village called Shekau. Here, elders and community leaders take VOA to meet Falmata Abubakar, who they say is the mother of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau.

His father was a local district imam before passing away a few years ago.

Falmata said she had never spoken to journalists before VOA approached her, and she does not know where her son is hiding.

“I don’t now if he’s alive or dead. I don’t know. It’s only God who knows. For 15 years I haven’t seen him,” she said.

Concealing their hometown

People here say they often hide the fact that they are from Abubakar Shekau’s hometown because others may fear they have Boko Haram connections.

Falmata says her son left Shekau as a boy to continue his Islamic education in Maiduguri, a center of religious studies for hundreds of years.

Shekau was an almajiri. In the generations-old tradition, almajirai are sent off by their parents to study the Quran in schools locally known as a tsangaya, where a teacher coaches the dozens, sometimes hundreds of male students, to memorize the entire Quran.

Almajirai beg on the streets for food, and it is believed that Shekau did the same. At some point in his studies, Shekau, according to his mother, met Mohammed Yusuf, the founder of Boko Haram, who condemned Western education as sinful. Falmata says her son was brainwashed.

‘Different characters’

“Since Shekau met with Mohammed Yusuf, I didn’t see him again,” she told VOA.

“Yes, he’s my son and every mother loves her son, but we have different characters,” she said. “He brought a lot of problem to many people. Where can I meet him to tell him that these things he is doing is very bad? He brought many problems to many people, but I am praying for God to show him the good way.”

Mohammed Yusuf was killed by Nigerian security agents in 2009, and Abubakar Shekau then took over as the leader.

Shekau is accused of leading an insurgency that has killed more than 30,000 people in northeastern Nigeria and the Lake Chad region.

Destroying schools is at the heart of Boko Haram’s manifesto, and the group has attacked more than 1,400 schools, according to the United Nations Children’s Fund.

Members of the group invaded the first primary school in northeastern Nigeria in 2010 and 2013. They killed the principal and secretary.

In 2014, Boko Haram killed 59 students at a federal school in Buni Yadi, Yobe State. The school is being rebuilt but the expansive campus is barren, a reminder of one of the bloodiest school attacks in Nigeria’s history.

In February of this year, the sect kidnapped more than 100 students from the girls’ secondary school in the town of Dapchi.

The insurgents returned the students a month later, but held onto Leah Sharibu, reportedly because she refused to convert to Islam in exchange for her freedom. Her mother Rebecca and her brother say they feel in their hearts that Leah is still alive.

It’s the 2014 abduction of the Chibok Girls from their school that brought Boko Haram into the international spotlight for unprecedented condemnation. The Bring Back Our Girls activists are still demanding the freedom of at least 100 Chibok Girls, including Dorcas Yakubu who turned 20 years old this week, marking her birthday while in Boko Haram captivity. In 2016, Dorcas appeared in a proof of life video released by the terrorists.

Falmata says she can never curse her son, but he has become someone who she doesn’t recognize anymore.

He just took his own character and went away,” she said. “This is not the character I gave him. I don’t know what this type of behavior is. It’s only God who knows.”
