These are not the best times for the Imo state Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and his Kano state counterpart, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje going by the report just coming into IGBERE TV newsroom.
According to the report, the duo have been allegedly linked to an illegal deal for the purchase of arms and ammunitions that were recently confiscated by South African authority.
An insider source gave names of others involved in the shaddy deal as, Mr. Babagana Munguno, Ahmed Abubakar Rufai (NIA), and Air Vice Marshal Mohammed Saliu Usman (CDI, Chief of Defence Intelligence).
According to the source, Governor Rochas Okorocha paid N500 million while his Kano state counterpart, Alhaji Ganduje provided another N540 million for the purchase of the seized ammunition, adding that they were said to have carried out the illegal importation without the knowledge of President Muhammadu Buhari in view of the 2019 general election for their respective states.
Disclosing further, our source said that the above desperate politicians were alleged to have purchased the ammunition through one Mr. AVM Morgan who first got alert of the total sum via CITI Bank, allegedly paid by a link man at Zenith Bank Nigeria.
He therefore revealed that the consignments were later intercepted by South African Government on a tip-off after it was shipped, maintaining that unknown to the purchaser, Mr. AVM Morgan that the money used in the purchase of the said illegal ammunition were marked by American Government, it was earlier for them to place the goods on red alert.
Adding, the source gave names and numbers of the seized items as, 50 BMG, 300 Win Mag, 10000 Military Camouflage Uniform, 308 Winchester, 7.62×39mm, 5.56×45mm NATO, .22LR, saying that the 5.56×45mm NATO round and the 22LR round have the same diameter bullets with different cartridges.
Others include, 45 ACP hollowpoint (Federal HST) with two .22 LRcartridges for comparison, while their serial numbers in collective standards was 84675673.
The source threfore said that the seizure became necessary after American Government placed ban on importation of military hardwares and softwares to Nigeria since Jonathan administration.
Meanwhile, our Reporter who forwarded text messages to the Chief Press Secretaries to Governors Okorocha, Ganduje and Media Director to Minister of Transportation for their reactions had yet to be responded after an earlier call put across them were not reachable as the time of filing this report
