The Former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu yesterday flagged off the construction of 5 Km Ututu Abuma – Ubila Road in Ututu, Arochukwu LGA, Abia state. The road which runs from St Paul’s junction, Abuma Ututu to Ubila Ututu was attracted by the former Governor through the NDDC.
Mammoth crowd including youths, women and children of the communities in the area that came out to welcome former Governor as he arrived for the event were overwhelmed in expression of joy that help has finally come their way following years of suffering over deplorable roads in the area.
Addressing the crowd that had gathered at the Ututu Community Primary School after flag off ceremony, Dr. Kalu thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for keeping to the promise made to him by ensuring the award of the contract and assured that by October 30, the road will be completed and ready for use.
He maintained that the project will be given accelerated construction in order to alleviate the plight of people of the area.
The former governor further extolled the APC led federal government for keeping to its promise made to the South East, pointing out that “the 2nd Niger Bridge and the massive road construction going on across the region is a testimony that the Buhari led government is different from the previous ones that promised and failed.”
He decried the non-payment of workers’ salaries and pensions in the state, berating the current Abia state government for always going to the press with non-existent and uncompleted projects.
Speaking earlier during a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Traditional Rulers Council, Ututu, Ezema Ututu, HRH Eze Solomon Okereke who conferred and reaffirmed the title of OMEREOHA ututu on Dr. Kalu, expressed the joy of Ndi Ututu over the road project and assured him of his people’s unalloyed support and prayers for his senatorial ambition come 2019.
Other sons of Ututu and Arochukwu extolled the sterling qualities of the former governor and assured that his 2019 Senate aspiration is a done deal.
The event was also a grand civic reception in honour of Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu and flag off of Team Progressives 2019 Campaign Organization.
