NSCDC Bans Personnel From Display Of Firearms At Public Events

Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Muhammadu, has banned members of the corps’ armed squad from displaying firearms, especially at public places.

This follows the accidental killing of a chieftain of the Action Alliance (AA) in Imo State, Ndubuisi Emenike, by an NSCDC official.

Muhammadu gave the new directive when he visited the former governor of Imo, Senator Rochas Okorocha, on the death of Mr Emenike.

The NSCDC boss warned that any personnel caught displaying firearms in whatever circumstances risks dismissal.

“And henceforth, it has become an offence for armed bearers to stay within the immediate perimeters of any occasion; they must keep a 50 meters distance away from events or party venues,” he added.

Muhammadu assured Okorocha and Imo people that he would take punitive action against the alleged shooter of the chieftain.

He also said he would be paying personal condolence visits to the immediate family of the deceased in Imo and Lagos States, adding that NSCDC is with them in prayers.
