Universal Music Group singer and songwriter, Tiwa Savage has set Lagos on Fire as she hosts her album, 49-99 listening party in Obalende area of the state, Igbere TV reports.
Igbere TV recalls that the songstress released her Fela-inspired 4th studio album titled “49-99” on 5th September 2019.
The super star singer has Studio albums like Once Upon a Time (2013), R.E.D (2015), My World (2016) and Compilation albums and EPs : Solar Plexus (2012), Godless America Mixtape, Vol. 3 and Sugarcane EP (2017) under her belt.
Explaining the inspiration for the title at a listening party in London, Tiwa said it came from the words “49 sitting 99 standing” in Fela Kuti’s ‘Shuffering and Shmiling’.
She explained further: “The song encourages the young to put down the sense of inheritance and work for what they desire in life, for a better tomorrow. We can’t sit on our old glories and expect things to change for the better.
“‘49-99’ also addresses some political leaders who, instead of focusing on the growth of a nation, are there just for the money and having affairs with underage girls – while the citizenry is hustling hard to make a daily living.”
