A former presidential candidate, Oby Ezekwesili, has claimed that the President Muhammadu Buhari administration used Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as “cannon fodder” for the alleged bad economic policy decisions made by the president, Igbere TV reports.
Igbere TV gathers that cannon fodder is a term used to describe combatants who are regarded by government or military command as expendable in the face of enemy fire.
Ezekwesili, in reaction to Buhari’s constitution of a new Economic Advisory Council on Monday, said Osinbajo is not to blame for how the Nigerian economy had turned out because he “had no power over core economic policy decisions.”
The president had dissolved the Economic Management Team head by Osinbajo and constituted the Economic Advisory Council to advise him on “economic policy matters, including fiscal analysis, economic growth and a range of internal and global economic issues working with the relevant cabinet members and heads of monetary and fiscal agencies.”
The council has Doyin Salami as chairman, Mohammed Sagagi as vice-chairman and Chukwuma Soludo and Bismark Rewane, as members, among others.
Speaking on the move, Ezekwesili noted that the economic advisory council system was copied from the American presidential system.
