Read the press statement below;
Fellow Nigerians, on Tuesday 2nd of September 2019, at around 5pm, I was ambushed and attacked by hooded gunmen, who shot at my car and then abducted me and one of my staff.
I was on my way from my farm in my village Agbogugu, when the incident happened. During the attack, my car fell into a ditch in my attempt to escape from the assailants.
Fortunately, and glory to God, no one was hurt during the attack.
During my ordeal, Nigerians rose up in one accord to demand for my release.
I am grateful for the show of love from the Nigerian people, the authorities, both Federal, State and local for their efforts in securing my release.
I am particularly grateful to the people, government and governor of Enugu State; His Excellency Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the leadership of my party; the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the people of my community Agbogugu, the security agencies, the press and the good people of Nigeria.
Many individuals showed concerns and goodwill during my travail, and did their best to secure my early release. For this, I am grateful.
I use this medium to appreciate everyone for their prayers and effort towards my freedom.
As a people and a nation, we must stand up to confront the menace of insecurity bedeviling our country.
Efforts must be put in place to strengthen our security and safeguard the lives and properties of Nigerians, because securing our people is sacrosanct. It is a duty we owe ourselves as a nation.
Once more, I want to say thank you for all the support and prayers I received during this ordeal.
In the final analysis, I give all glory and honour to God Almighty for His mercies and protection even in the hands of the kidnappers. My gratitude is eternal.
I also appreciate my family and friends for their steadfastness and hope. In all, it ended in praise.
Thank you.
Signed
Rt. Hon. SKE Udeh-Okoye
National Youth Leader of the PDP
