Chairman/CEO of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has met the Nigerian-born British politician, Kate Anolue.

Anolue was sworn in as the mayor of Enfield, United Kingdom, in May following her election.

She had spent the “most quality years” of her life in Enfield after moving to the borough from her home town in Nanka, Anambra more than 40 years ago.

Anolue is the second black female mayor of Enfield but the first to be elected twice.

In a tweet on Thursday, Mrs Dabiri-Erewa said she spent ‘some quality time’ with the mayor.

“Some quality time with Mayor Kate Anolue, the first African woman to be elected mayor of the London Borough of Enfield TWICE after she was sworn-in for another year in office on Wednesday May 8 2019. From Anambra State, she’s been a Councillor for 16 years #ProudlyNigerian,” she said.

During her swearing-in ceremony in May, Anolue had said her charity work would be focused on tackling sickle cell anaemia, cancer and dementia, as well as other causes.

She said: “I am proud and honoured to stand here as elected mayor of this great, vibrant and diverse borough of ours.

“My fellow councillors have placed a great privilege and responsibility upon me, and I want to express my sincere appreciation of you all for putting your trust in me.”
