Chairman and the chief executive officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has revealed that she was paid a surprise visit by Zainab Aliyu and her sister, Hajara Aliyu on Thursday.
Zainab, a student of Maitama Sule University, Kano, was arrested at a Saudi airport after a banned drug, tramadol, was found in her bag.She claimed unknown persons planted it in her luggage.
The student had reportedly travelled from Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in company of her mother, Maryam Aliyu, and sister but was arrested over allegations that a bag bearing her nametag contained the unlawful substance.
Zainab returned to the country in May after Mrs Dabiri-Erewa’s office and that of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and other related agencies worked towards her release.
In a tweet on Friday, Dabiri-Erewa said she was pleased to see Zainab and her sister whom she said looked ‘so cute and so sweet’.
“Pleasant surprise by Zainab Aliyu and her sister @Hajarahhh who stopped by my office yesterday. Both so cute and so sweet. They made my day,” she said.
Dabiri-Erewa met Zainab for the first time on May 15. At the time, she had not been appointed NIDCOM boss.
