BREAKING: Police Arrest SaharaReporters Journalists, Place Office Under Surveillance

Men of the Nigerian police have arrested Messrs Victor Ogungbenro and Tosin Olajuwon, journalists with SaharaReporters, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV learned that while Ogungbenro, a video editor, was arrested alongside some #RevolutionNow protesters in Lagos, Olajuwon was picked up at Ore in Ondo State while leading a team of the protesters.

The Lagos office of the media outfit is reportedly being monitored by men of the secret police.

An online medium reports that a policeman was seen around the SaharaReporters Lagos office in Ikeja, while a car was parked at its front and inside the car were two DSS operatives.

A source told Igbere TV that reporters had been directed to stay away from the office as a result of the current situation.

In Lagos, the protesters had gathered at the National Stadium in Lagos with various placards demanding the release of Omoyele Sowore, convener of the #RevolutionNow movement and publisher, SaharaReporters.

Igbere TV had reported that Sowore was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, on Saturday in his Ikeja residence, over the planned protest.

After the protesters had been dispersed with teargas and gunshots, Ogungbero who was filming the protest was picked and thrown into a stationed van.

“Yes, he is a reporter with Sowore’s SaharaReporters and he’s part of the protest,” Tijani Fatai, an assistant police commissioner who confirmed the arrest, told our correspondent.

He said they (the police) have an order from the Inspector-general of police (IGP) to disperse the “unlawful gathering”.

Igbere TV reliably gathered that those arrested in Lagos are currently being held at the police area ‘C’ command in Surulere, Lagos.

At least six persons reportedly sustained various degree of injuries when policemen used teargas and live ammunition to disperse the protesters
