BREAKING: Governor Finally Resigns After Heavy Protest

Embattled Puerto Rican Governor, Ricardo Rossello has finally resigned after two weeks of massive protests sparked by a text message scandal.

The recent protest which was taken down to streets near the governor’s mansion, has also seen two top officials resign.

“I announce that I will be resigning from the governor’s post-effective Friday, August 2 at 5 pm,” Rossello said, in a video statement posted on the government’s Facebook page.

“I trust that Puerto Rico will continue united and move forward as it always has,” Rossello added.

“And I hope that this decision will serve as a call for reconciliation of citizens.”

He further stated that the decision to resign came after the complaints against him and discussion with his family. Mr Rosselló will be replaced by the US Caribbean island territory’s Justice Secretary, Wanda Vázquez.

It was further learnt that a crowd of demonstrators outside the governor’s mansion in Old San Juan, erupted into cheers and singing after his announcement on Facebook Live just before midnight.
