Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in September 2018 Osun governorship election, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has congratulated Governor Gboyega Oyetola on his victory at the Supreme Court, Igbere TV reports.
The apex court had on Friday dismissed Adeleke’s appeal and upheld Oyetola as the rightfully elected governor of the state.
This came after Osun State Governorship Election Tribunal declared Adeleke winner of the election on March 22.
Justice Olabode Rodes-Vivour, on behalf of five Supreme Court judges, ruled that failure of a member of the election tribunal, Justice Peter Obiora, to sit on February 6, 2019, rendered the entire proceedings and the judgement by the tribunal a nullity.
A statement on Friday by Adeleke’s spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, said the senator’s ambition to be Osun governor was never a do-or-die affair.
“As a democrat and law-abiding citizen, I accept the ruling no matter my misgivings. I wish Governor Oyetola well in the governance of Osun State,” he said.
“In all circumstances, we must thank God Almighty. We gallantly fought a good fight in pursuance of a democratic cause. The ideals we fought for lives on.
“Our ambition was never a do-or-die affair. We aspired to serve and deliver democratic dividends to the people of Osun state. Our ambition was altruistic. We wish Governor Oyetola the best in the governance of the state,” Adeleke said.
