A former Minister of Education and Youth Development, Prof. Ben Nwabueze, has announced himself before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja as the leader of the petitioners’ legal team.
Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are challenging President Muhammadu Buhari’s victory at the polls in February.
Nwabueze, 87, appeared in the tribunal on a wheelchair on Thursday and read a speech before the commencement of proceedings.
The senior lawyer took his leave about 30 minutes later.
Nwabueze said his appearance was to underscore the importance of the case for the nation’s democratic development.
The tribunal has, however, suspended proceedings to rule on an issue raised by the respondents, to the effect that the petitioners have not properly complied with an earlier order of the court.
