Former first lady, Patience Jonathan, has appealed the forfeiture of her N9.2 billion and $8.4 million to the Federal Government.
Mrs Jonathan on Tuesday prayed the Court of Appeal in Lagos to set aside the judgment of Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of the Federal High Court in Lagos.
Counsel to Jonathan, Mike Ozekhome, said the judge erred in law by ordering the final forfeiture when she had no jurisdiction to do so.
Justice Olatoregun ruled on Monday that the funds should be forfeited to the Federal Government on an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
She ruled that the funds found in accounts of Jonathan’s companies were proceeds of unlawful activities.
