BREAKING!!! UNICAL to Honour Ben Kalu with '2019 Distinguished Alumnus Award'

Hon. Benjamin Kalu, House of Representatives Member-elect, Bende Federal Constituency has been nominated for the award of Distinguished Alumnus of University of Calabar (Unical), his alma mater. The award ceremony is to be held at the Faculty of Law’s annual law dinner on July 5, 2019.

Ben Kalu

In a letter signed by Professor Micheal P. Okom, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Hon. Kalu who finished from the prestigious University in 1998 after dropping a one of a kind brilliant dissertation research work on “On oil spillage and the victim’s right; the Legal perspective”, was described as a worthy Ambassador of the university.

When the member elect was contacted by Igbere Tv he confirmed receiving the letter and thanked the University especially the Faculty under Professor Okom for introducing many innovations in the way things are done in the faculty. “I am proud of how dynamic the faculty has evolved”, he said. “The Class of ‘98 of which I am one have identified with his [Professor Okom’s] visions and determined to support them becoming a mission.”

Referring to the viral successful outing of Unical law students who recently won the African regional oral rounds of the Manfred Lachs Space law moot court competition which took place in Pretoria, South Africa and will be advancing to represent the African region at the World Finals in Washington D.C, USA, Hon. Kalu added,
“I thank the students who have raised the banner of our reputation in the last successful international moot court trial as I hope to support them in the coming event in the US.”
He went further,
“This award is a recognition for taking giant strides in life while remaining a worthy Ambassador of University of Calabar and especially the Faculty of Law. It is with every amount of humility and high sense of responsibility that I accept the invitation to be honoured with the Distinguished Alumnus Award.

“This is another call to continue the partnership with my alma mater’s faculty of law, and it is one which I shall continue to answer.”
Igbere TV obtained a copy of the letter below.
