Fayose, PDP React To Sack Of 2,000 Workers in Ekiti

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Peter Ayodele Fayose, has reacted to the sack of 2,000 workers appointed by him shortly before leaving office.

Igbere TV had previously reported that Governor Fayemi Kayode on Thursday, approved the sack of 2,000 staff appointed by Fayose after the July 2018 governoship election.

The decision, according to a statement made available to Igbere TV, followed deliberations by the State Exective Council (SEC) on the report of the committee headed by the Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, that reviewed ‘irregular appointments’ made between 2014 and 2018.

The government declared that their recruitment did not follow due process and was politically lopsided to give undue advantage to the cronies of the former governor.

Reacting, former governor Fayose described the action by Gov. Fayemi-led government as “height of wickedness and political vendetta.”

He called on all the affected civil servants not to be disillusioned, but to approach the court to challenge the State Government’s decision.

Fayose, who spoke through his Spokesman, Lere Olayinka, on Thursday in Ado Ekiti, said “sacking of people duly engaged in the service by a duly constituted government was most unfortunate.”

He however, said that the incumbent governor, by the action, had succeeded in writing his name in the history books of Ekiti as one who inflicted sorrow on the people.

“He has demonstrated this by sacking Ekiti people who were duly employed by the state government.

“Whoever that applauds this show of wickedness will be reminded in future when actions of Fayemi will also be reviewed.

“As for those who have now become victims of this act of wickedness and political vendetta, they should enforce their rights to seek redress in the court of law,” he said.

On its part, the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in a statement, described the action as “insensitive, ungodly and anti-people.”

The statement issued on Thursday in Ado Ekiti and sighted by Igbere TV, was signed by the Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, Jackson Adebayo.
