2019: "I Will Resign If", Mike Igini (Akwa Ibom Resident Electoral Commissioner)

The 2019 World Press Freedom Day has shed light on lots of hidden truth in Akwa Ibom state as regards the general elections where the incumbent leader was declared winner by Mike Igini, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Igbere Tv reports.

The event which held in the state capital, Uyo on Thursday, May 02 had Igini as the keynote guest Speaker.

“All the election materials alongside the electoral officers were tracked by him to their destination, including when some of the actors were seen on tracking devices snatching ballot boxes,” Mr. Igini disclosed.

“We tracked all those who hijacked materials. I picked my phone and called some of them to let them know we were seeing them. They were shocked. We have their pictures and they are all documented. So when they are talking about us rigging election, they should be careful”, he further stated.

The REC who’s fondly called ‘Son of man’ stated that he has not visited any politician or called any of them since he came into the state. “I’m not saying two or three but just one and if just one person can come out to say I have visited or call him, I will resign”, he told attendees.

Speaking on elections in Nigeria, he lamented how the governors have hijacked the local government elections, imposing people at will.

“Only 36 persons hijacked 774 local governments in Nigeria, just 36 people. There’s no democracy in that area. Local government areas are now conquered areas by the few thirty-six people.”

Igini is reputed for being sent to areas where elections are difficult to conduct and widely acclaimed to have delivered as a man of integrity.
