NASS Leadership: APC 'll Listen to S'East Appeal for Equitable Representation - Ben Kalu

Honorable Benjamin Kalu, the House of Representatives member-elect for Bende Federal Constituency, Abia State, in a chat with Igbere Tv newsmen has said the South-East region was reinforcing efforts to importune the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to consider the South-East geopolitical zone in the sharing of principal offices.

Hon. Kalu who spoke in the presence of Igbere Tv correspondents in Igbere, Bende Local Government Area said; “If the party has taken a position, we wouldn’t fight them to change that position through war of words or any antagonistic approach.

“We can only lobby the party and ask the party to change some positions that are not favourable to us. And that is what South-East is doing.

“On Saturday, we were at Enugu and we were able to deliberate how to go about it. The whole house agreed that we are not going to fight the party or goo no into war with the party. We are going to lobby and committees have been set up to go and reach out to the party and tell the party that what is fair is fair, what is just is just.

He added, “What we are saying is that in the sharing of these positions, the six geopolitical zones should be put into consideration.

“I’m sure my party is a listening party. With this lobbying that is going on, we are going to get what we are looking for. Politics is about lobbying and diplomacy. It is not about fight. We from South-East are not going to fight the leadership of the party but to lobby and get what is best for us.”

He said the region had qualified candidates to man various principal positions in the 9th National Assembly, expressing optimism that the National Working Committee of the party would look into the concerns of the region.

Hon. Kalu maintained that the APC performed better in 2019 than in 2015 election in the South-East region, stating that in 2015, the party did not have any member of House of Representatives in Abia but produced two in 2019, and one senatorial position which the party did not have in 2015.

Hon. Kalu while speaking with Igbere Tv on his plan for his people vowed to find solutions to the needs of his people at the rural area, maintaining that his experience as a private sector player fully had prepared him for the job.

“My cardinal objective is to attract the attention of the Federal Government to deal with the problems confronting my constituents,” he stated.
