Former governor of Abia and Senator-elect, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu is currently holding a closed-door meeting with a former President of South Africa, Kgalema Motlanthe, who this morning paid a special visit to Kalu.

Igbere TV reports that the meeting which began moments ago is holding at Hilton Hotels and Resorts, in Johannesburg.

Also at the meeting is wife of the former governor, Mrs Ifunanya Kalu.

Igbere TV correspondent at the venue reports that both leaders also had breakfast together.

Although details of the meeting have not been disclosed yet, the discussions may not be unconnected with the recent unrest in the country and the most recent xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.

The meeting comes a day after the former governor held a separate meeting with former President of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki in Johannesburg. The meeting ended with the Senator-elect disclosing that issues affecting both countries, were deliberated on.

“I had a fruitful meeting with the former President of South Africa, Thabo Mvuyelwa Mbeki in Johnesburg joined by my wife, Mrs Ifunanya Kalu. As leaders we both deliberated on pertinent issues especially ending civil unrests by promoting unity amongst all Africans,” Kalu told Igbere TV on Tuesday.

Igbere TV recalls that Kalu and his wife, Ifunanya, have been in South Africa since Thursday on a business trip.

They were on Monday night hosted to a dinner by His Excellency, Sir Chief Dr Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin Kingdom.

Similarly, popular Nigerian pastor and president/founder of Believers Loveworld aka Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilomen on Sunday played host to the former governor in a special church service organized in his South African church, as part of activities to mark his (Kalu) 59th birthday.

Motlanthe is a South African politician who served as interim President of South Africa between 25 September 2008 and 9 May 2009, following the resignation of Thabo Mbeki.

Motlanthe, South Africa’s first Northern Sotho-speaking president, was succeeded by Jacob Zuma in 2009.
