Rev Father Dr. Ajuka of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church ,Igbere has described the statement credited to Governor of Abia-State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu as an evil thought.
Igbere Tv reports that the Catholic cleric made this known today during his Lenten Season sermon at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church,Okposi, Igbere. The cleric said that it was absurd and immoral for the Governor seek re-election despite owning state workers over 8 months unpaid salaries .
The Abia State PDP Governor had in a recent interview stated that ‘the payment of workers salaries should be taken for granted’.
According to the interview the Governor was quoted to have said : “payment of salaries should be taken for granted as something that should be done routinely. The Governor further stated that he doesn’t like discussing salaries”.
The Catholic cleric said :” Although, I am not a politician but as preachers it is our duty to guide the people by speaking the truth on current realities. How can a sitting Governor say that the payment of worker’s salaries can be taken for granted? It is an evil thought to say such.
For Ikpeazu to also say that they have trained their children so that they will take care of them when they have left office is equally an evil thought. I am also involved in the civil service I can confirm that we have not been paid for eight months .How does the Government expect the teachers to survive and yet he wants them to re-elect him as their Governor “.
The Rev. Father futher called on Christians to use the Lenten season to desist from evil ways , seek genuine repentance and live in harmony with their fellow humans.
