Following the arrest of a staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr. V Ibe, who was also the Collation Officer of Arochukwu LGA of Abia state in the last Saturday presidential and national assembly election, the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Umuahia, Monday invited and interrogated the Senator representing Abia North, Mr. Mao Ohuabunwa over allegations of electoral fraud.
The arrested INEC official had in connivance with Ohuabunwa, who contested for Senate (Abia North) on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), illegally thump-printed ballot papers and manipulated results in favour of the PDP candidate.
The electoral fraud was perpetrated with the support of a police Inspector (name withheld and under investigation ) who was also handcuffed and arrested by the police.
Speaking under condition of anonymity, a close aide of the embattled senator, confirmed Ohuabunwa’s invitation by the police, adding that the security agency had earlier arrested a policeman and a staff of INEC in connection with the electoral fraud.
“The case against the embattled senator may be transferred to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja, he added” .
Efforts to reach the spokesman of the police in Abia state proved abortive as his telephone lines were off.
