Biafra: BIM expresses worry over Buhari’s comments

The Biafra Independent Movement (BIM), on Thursday, expressed worry over comments about Biafra attributed to President Muhammadu Buhari during his working visit to Ebonyi State.

Briefing journalists in Afikpo North local government area of the state, the leader of pro-Biafra group in Ebonyi South zone, Sunday Ezaka, stressed that the President made a mistake by saying that Ndigbo do not need Biafra.

According to him, nobody can stop the actualization of the sovereign state of Biafra.

He added that Igbos who were following Buhari were making a mistake as Biafra remained the hope of Ndigbo for them to be free.

He said: “The clamour for Biafra is actualisable and you will soon see it. BIM started the BIAFRA struggle.

“I saw in the national dailies that Buhari visited Ebonyi state and said that Igbo don’t need Biafra; I want to clearly let him know that he is making a mistake by uttering such comments.

“Igbo that are following Buhari are also making a mistake; never a time that the Igbo do not need Biafra; Biafra is our hope and we are deeply involved in its actualization; that is where we hope to survive, when Biafra Republic emerges which I know that very soon it will become a reality.

“For Buhari to say that Igbo do not have interest in Biafra, he is lying; I don’t know when and where he dreamt such a thing. Nobody can stop Biafra.

“It is because of our non-violent initiatives ordered by our leader, Chief Dr. Raph Uwazurike and we are trying to maintain the non-violent otherwise it would have become another story altogether.

“That is why we are asking the Nigerian government to please call their security forces and leave us alone. There is freedom of association and it is practiced everywhere and Nigeria will not be different; we are not causing violence in the society; they should leave us alone to do our own thing.

“I want to encourage my members to maintain non-violence because Biafra would soon become a reality; on 26th November is Ojukwu memorial day; we want the public to be aware that that day we are celebrating our Hero, the Eze; we call on Arewa youth leadership, Oduduwa and others to come and attend the programme in Owerri”.
