Following overwhelming vote of no confidence passed on Mr. Mao Ohunabunwa of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday by leaders of thoughts in Arochukwu LGA of Abia state, the PDP senatorial candidate for Abia North may have made up his mind to drop his senatorial ambition.
According to the Chairman of the Elders Forum, Mazi Sunny Jones, Ohuabunwa does not have the capacity to provide qualitative and responsive representation.
While advising the PDP candidate to retire from active politics, the leaders urged the people of Abia North to forgive the embattled senator for poor performance in the national assembly.
Speaking under condition of anonymity, a close ally and family friend of Ohunabunwa stressed that the Senator after consultations across Abia North senatorial zone has made up his mind to announce his withdrawal from the senatorial race.
He said, ” after wide-spread consultations across Abia North senatorial zone, Ohunabunwa has decided to withdraw from the senatorial race.
“The people of Abia North have adopted former Governor of Abia state, Dr. Orji Kalu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as their candidate.
” Politics is about the people and I am confident that Kalu will do a great job in advancing the cause of the people”.
While urging other supporters of Ohuabunwa to vote for the APC candidate in the February 23 election, he stressed that the collective interest of the people must be placed above selfish ambitions.
Ohunabunwa’s decision to step down is coming a few hours to the rescheduled presidential and national assembly elections slated for February 23.
