SHOCKING: Windstorm kills 1, Destroys 100 Houses In Sokoto

A three-year old boy, Bashir Aliyu, died while three others sustained injuries as a result of windstorm which destroyed several houses at Shuni town in Dange-Shuni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The Chairman of the area, Alhaji Mode Dantasalla, said the incident occurred yesterday at about 2am.

He added that over 100 houses were damaged while property worth millions of Naira, including crops were destroyed by the disaster.

Dantasalla said they had set up a committee to ascertainthe extent of damage caused by the disaster, just as they were working on ways to assist the victims in the interim.
Some of those whose houses were completely destroyed, he assured, would be provided with temporary shelter in addition to food items.

He said the council would contact all relevant agencies in the state for assistance, urging the victims to see their plight as the will of God and remain prayerful.
Representative of the area in the state House of Assembly, Alhaji Aminu Magaji Bodai, said six communities were affected, describing the situation as terrible. He said he would present the matter before the House.
When contacted, the General Manager, Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Hasan Maccido said they would send a team of experts to the affected areas for on-the-spot assessment, assuring the victims of quick response.
