Abia state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on security agencies to monitor closely top politicians in the state, particularly Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, who were alleged to have hired people to thump-print ballot papers before the postponed presidential and national assembly elections.
According to Barrister Perfect Okorie, who is the scribe of the APC in Abia state, the PDP is afraid of a credible poll, owing to their unpopular candidates across the state.
Addressing a cross-section of journalists in Umuahia on Wednesday, Barrister Perfect Okorie, berated the PDP senatorial candidate for Abia North, Mao Ohunabunwa over unsubstantiated allegations against the person of former governor of Abia state, Dr. Orji Kalu, who is also the APC senatorial candidate for Abia North.
He said, ” we are aware of the plans of the PDP to rig election.
“Although they have had their way in the past but we shall not condone any fraudulent act in the February 23 presidential and national assembly elections.
” The PDP and their agents have fake ballot papers in the residences of their top chieftains, many of whom are being monitored closely by appropriate authorities.
“The essence of election is for the electorate to choose their preferred candidates without harassment or intimidation .
” A few individuals in Abia state feel they can use the state government machinery to manipulate the electoral process. We shall resist their undemocratic acts.
“The time is now for Abians to resist failed politicians, who have nothing to offer other than dancing to the music of their sponsors.
” We need change in Abia state”
While admonishing Abians to cast their votes for APC candidates across the board, Okorie urged Ohunabunwa, who he described as a political burden, to be cautious of his utterances so as not to heat the polity, adding that he (Ohuabunwa) lacks the capacity to represent the people of Abia North.
