Ahead of the forthcoming elections, Abians have berated Abia state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr. Joseph Ilo for compromising on recruitment and appointment of ad-hoc staff members, Igbere TV reports.
According to the Secretary of “People’s Mandate” , Ada Okeke , a pressure group, the REC, may be working in favour of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Speaking at a roundtable programme on Wednesday, the Secretary lamented the unbalanced appointments in Abia state INEC office, adding that the electoral process is being threatened in order to satisfy candidates of APGA.
He said, ” the electorate are wary of the lopsided appointment of ad-hoc staff members by INEC in Abia state.
Most of the staff are loyal to APGA and this is unfair to other political parties”.
Corroborating the group, a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Isiukwuato LGA of Abia state, pointed out that it is known to the general public that INEC in Abia state is supporting APGA.
“Most of the ad-hoc staff members engaged by INEC in Abia state have ties with APGA” .
Describing the situation as undemocratic and painful, the politician urged INEC in Abia state to follow due process in all political activities.
