Goodluck Jonathan, immediate past President, has reacted to disparaging statement against his government by former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Farida Waziri.
Waziri had claimed that while in office, she arrested a suspect involved in oil subsidy scam and that immediately, she got a call from the Presidential villa, asking her to “release the suspect, because, in their words, ‘he is our person.”
The former EFCC boss claimed that her refusal to release the suspect led to her removal from office few days later.
However, Jonathan in his reaction, described Farida’s claim as “lies.”
Jonathan challenged the former EFCC boss to disclose the identity of the person or company she was investigating then that led to her removal.
In a tweet via his social media, the Bayelsa-born ex-President said failure to make public the identity of the person or company she was investigating indicates that “she was simply hired to attack me.”
“If Farida is not telling lies, she should mention the person or company she was investigating and she was stopped, let the @officialEFCC investigate.
“Crime has no statute bar. If she can’t, then she was simply hired to attack me,” Jonathan tweeted.
