Igbere TV broke the news, late last night of the assassination of Nigeria’s former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Bash by unknown gunmen.
The Nigerian Air Force in a statement said:
“It is with a heavy heart that I regretfully announce the unfortunate demise of former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, who died today, 18 Dec 18, from gunshot wounds sustained when his vehicle was attacked while returning from his farm along Abuja-Keffi Road.
“On behalf officers, airmen and airwomen of the Nigerian Air Force, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Abubakar, commiserates with the family of the late former Chief of Defence Staff over this irreparable loss. We pray that the Almighty God grants his soul eternal rest.”
Many Nigerians, Igbere TV reports, have attributed this killing to the poor state of security in the country.
However, the police which is responsible for the country’s internal security insists it is doing its best. The police tweeted just 3 days before Badeh’s killing:
“The @PoliceNG has been unrelenting in the fight against kidnapping, armed robbery, banditry, other violent crimes, and all forms of crimes and criminality. This has made our dear Country more secured and safer. @MrBanksOmishore should stop peddling fake and misleading reports pls”.
This high profile killing is obviously an indictment on the police and its claims, we look forward to how it reacts to this unfortunate incidence and solves the crime to help bring some closure to the family and friends of the late Chief of Defence Staff and the country at Large.
