ANAMBRA— The Anambra State chapter of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has described as “mischievous, baseless and unfounded,” the report by some Nigerian newspapers that it has concluded plans to disrupt the November 18 gubernatorial election in the State.
In a telephone conversation with The Biafra Times Correspondent, the IPOB Anambra South Senatorial Coordinator, Mr. Ernest Mmuo, said he is only aware that the leadership declared a sit-at-home protest in the State as a means to boycotting the election so as to drive home their demand for a referendum to determine the fate and plausibility of a Biafra nation.
He further stated that IPOB has neither threatened any potential voter nor has it threatened to disrupt the election but only appealed to Anambra residents to boycott the election in its entirety, adding that anyone reporting or expressing contrary views is either doing so in ignorance or simply being mischievous.
According to Mr. Mmuo, “Our attention has been drawn to some online newspaper publications insinuating that IPOB has threatened to disrupt the Anambra State governorship election slated to hold on November 18.
“We therefore, wish to state categorically clear that neither have we threatened anyone going out to vote nor have we threatened to disrupt the election as erroneously reported.
“IPOB as a non-violent people have simply called on the residents of the State to boycott the election in its entirety, in our demand for a referendum. The choice of whether to vote or not is entirely the inalienable right of the citizens as it is not enforceable by any law.
“Come November 18, we’re going to once again show the world our resoluteness and formidability in our quest to restore Biafra. Regardless of the enormous threats by the security agencies, we must continue and cannot be cowed.

“We’re not unaware that some mischievous and unscrupulous persons may tend to forment one form of trouble or another on that election day, using IPOB as a cover but all their evil schemes will become futile.
“We continue to urge Biafrans in Anambra to make November 18 a historic and remarkable day by staying at their homes and not to participate in the election. They should not be deceived by those moneybags in Anambra in order to sell their future.”
