With the barrage of litigations challenging the authenticity of current flagbearers of political parties in Imo State, Analysts have predicted that whoever will win the 2019 guber elections in the State, may never get the opportunity to rule or may have his tenure abruptly truncated by a court process nullifying the exercise. This is even as it has been predicted that current candidates of both the National and State Assemblies seeking elective positions across the parties may suffer a similar fate due to the irregularities and illegalities surrounding their emergence as standard bearers.
IgbereTV News gathered that not less than 90% of the parties in Imo are facing court charges on the common case of illegal candidacy. Arc.Maxwell Duruji, a political analyst, while speaking with this medium pointed that ‘illegality of candidature can only survive for as long as it has not been vacated by a competent court of law’. Duruji recalled the case of Rivers State in 2007 when Omehia , despite not winning the PDP primaries went on to win the elections “but the interesting part was that Rotimi Amaechi was the one that was eventually sworn in as governor, because the court ruled that Amaechi being the authentic winner of the primaries, should be govern, since his Party the PDP eventually won the elections.
“I see a similar situation awaits such parties as the Action Alliance, the PDP, SDP , APGA ,APC and several other parties in Imo where there are controversies surrounding the emergence of their flagbearers.”.
Prince Maxwell Odibo, another political analyst in the State, while speaking with our correspondent noted that ‘we may have a situation where there may be no representative coming from certain LGA’s to the state Assembly “due to envisaged cancelation and nullification by the court’. “Many of those parading tickets now never went through any primaries, they are impostors, fake and may just be waiting for the hammer of the law to hit them” Odibo concluded.
