The youths of Ebonyi State have expressed support for Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, dismissing a protest staged in Abuja against his administration as an attempt by alleged political opponents to discredit the governor.
In a communique issued on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, and signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Mobilisation and Development, Comrade Chinedu Emerike Orji, the group said the Abuja protest did not represent the collective position of Ebonyi youths.
The youths described the protest, reportedly held in Abuja on September 8, as a “charade,” alleging that those involved were hired to tarnish the image of the governor and distract attention from his administration’s achievements.
They rejected allegations that the Nwifuru administration was intimidating, oppressing or suffocating opposition political parties in the state, insisting that Ebonyi remained peaceful and provided political parties with the opportunity to operate irrespective of their affiliations.
According to the communique, the allegations made against the governor were “unfounded” and lacked truth, while the protesters were described as political jobbers allegedly working to undermine the administration.
The group further maintained that Nwifuru had not used the Nigeria Police Force or other security agencies to intimidate or harass individuals or groups in the state.
The youths also declared confidence in the governor’s leadership, citing what they described as his achievements and youth-friendly policies across the state.
They subsequently passed a vote of confidence in Nwifuru and declared that there would be “no vacancy” in the Ebonyi State Government House in 2027.
The group further endorsed the governor’s candidacy, alongside other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for the 2027 general elections, describing the endorsement as support for continuity in governance.
The Ebonyi youths urged residents, political stakeholders and young people across the state to remain peaceful, law-abiding and united, warning against actions capable of creating political tension.
They stressed that the Abuja protest should not be interpreted as the position of Ebonyi youths, insisting that the people of the state remained committed to peace and development.
