The senatorial ambition of former Abia State Governor, Dr. Orji Kalu received a boost on Monday as people from old Bende in Abia State gathered to throw their weight behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Abia North.
Describing the frontline politician as an illustrious son of Igboland, stakeholders at the meeting called on the people of Abia North Senatorial District to vote en masse for the former governor in the forthcoming 2019 general elections.
According to the group, Kalu, regardless of political affiliation, will continue to enjoy the support of Abians owing to his antecedents as a philanthropist.
In a statement issued and signed by Chief Benjamin Ukaegbu, after the meeting in Item, Bende LGA of Abia State, the people of old Bende acknowledged the contributions of the former governor to the development of Abia State and Nigeria in general.
He said, “as we approach the 2019 general elections, politicians have started to cajole the people with empty promises.
” We know those who have the interests of the masses at heart.
“Our son, Kalu, will continue to enjoy our robust and unalloyed support because of his large-heart, humility and humanitarian gestures.
” He has continually sustained his relationship with the grassroots despite his success in all spheres of life.
“Kalu offers free medical programmes, transport empowerment schemes, petty traders’ loan and scholarships to indigents.
“It will not only be unfair but wicked, if Kalu is not elected to represent the people of Abia North.
” The time is now for us to reciprocate the good gestures of the former governor.
“Without sentiments and with due respect to other candidates, Kalu is the most qualified to give us qualitative, responsive and robust representation in the National Assembly.
” He has the capacity to attract development to our region”
Ukaegbu, who condemned those spreading rumours that Kalu was dead, stressed that the former governor is recuperating fast after a successful surgery in Germany.
The community leader admonished the people of old Bende to remain peaceful and united.
