Abia 2019: Catholic Church Debunks 'Fake News' in Circulation

The Catholic Diocese of Umuahia on Thursday said it has come to the knowledge of the Bishop of the Diocese, his lordship, Most Rev. Lucius I. Ugorji that a message is circulating in the social Media Platform regarding the 2019 elections with respect to Abia state which is ascribed to him.

In a statement signed by the Diocesan Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Michael Ukpong, His Lordship, Most Rev. Ugorji has distanced himself from the message.

According to the statement, any such message emanating from the diocesan Secretariat must bear the diocesan logo or the Bishop’s seal and logo and duly signed.

The statement while attributing the message as handiwork mischief makers, noted that the church as a mother, encourages all to participate in politics.

Rev. Ukpong said the church is non partisan and its message on good governance and voter education is already in the public domain.

It will be recalled that the Catholic Women Organization and other groups within the church in Abia State have endorsed Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for second term in office.
