President Muhhamdu Buhari may have changed his mind on submission of his controversial Newly acquired West African Examinations Council (WAEC) certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2019 presidential election.
This was revealed to igbere Tv by his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Recall that the attestation was presented to President Buhari on Friday, November 2, 2018, by the registrar of WAEC, Dr. Uyi Uwadiae, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
But Lanre Issa-Onilu, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, told IGBERE TV that the certificate will not longer be submitted to INEC as it was no longer necessary.
Issa-Onilu said: âWe donât need to submit to INEC.
âINEC has never expressed reservations about the documents that President Muhammadu Buhari attached to his personal particulars.
âNow that WAEC has issued Mr. President his certificate, any of the Doubting Thomases can approach the body, WAEC, for authentication or clarification.â
The president has received intense social media backlash since the matter of his âmissing WAECâ certificate resurfaced during the Independent National Electoral Commissionâs announcement of candidates in the 2019 elections.
Femi Aribisala, a prominent opposition columnist, has slammed the certificate presented to Buhari calling it an âoluwoleâ, which means fake in Yoruba.
Many other prominent Nigerians have also harshly criticized the examination body for this act.
