Hurray! Fayemi Declares Free Education to soften the Economy Hardship on Ekiti Parents

The Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi has announced the cancellation of the payment of the Educational Levies for both the Primary and Secondary Schools in both the Public and Private Schools in Ekiti State. The Governor dropped this hint today while reacting to questions at the Town Hall Meetings held at both Ido Ekiti and Ikere Ekiti. The Town Hall Meetings are parts of the week longed activities mapped out by the Inauguration Committee to usher in the Government of Dr. John Kayode Fayemi into the State for his second term in Office as Governor.

The Governor reminded the people at the Town Hall Meetings how the immediate past administration of Mr. Ayodele Fayose as Governor of the State introduced the payment of Five Hundred Naira N500 Levy for the Primary School and One Thousand Naira (N1000) for the Secondary Schools in the State.

The directive and the instruction of the Governor on the cancellation enjoins the Ministry of Education in the State, its Officials and all other Stakeholders in the Education Sector in the State to effect the new changes immediately. Governor Kayode Fayemi equally used the opportunity to announced the commencements of the School Feeding Programmes being expected to be kicked start in the State before December 2018.

Governor Kayode Fayemi further stated: “when we were in Government between the Year 2010 and 2014, we ran free Education until when the last administration came and said School
children should pay Tax. By the Grace of God, by December this Year, we are also going to
introduce School Feeding Programme from the Primary School Level to the Junior Secondary 3 as part of the benefits we will get from the Federal Government”, he declared.

While Governor Kayode Fayemi was in Ikere Ekiti for their own turn of the Town Hall Meeting, an unscheduled visit and homage was paid to the Ogoga of Ikere Ekiti in his Palace, Oba Adejimi Adu Alagbado to commend him and the people of the Ikere Ekiti for Standing by him.

Governor Fayemi used “the opportunity to urge the members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti to cooperate and work together for the success of the party in the 2019 General Elections in the State. He advised the Party members to forget about their electoral grudges and join hands with him to fight to project a common cause”.

“We cannot avoid disagreement in politics, that’s why the opportunity to engage in responsible Dialogue and Reconciliation has since being created and established by the Party Leadership Hierarchy and the Constitution to enable the Party accommodate all shades of opinion and views. The important thing is to cooperate to achieve success in the 2019 General Elections in the Country”.

“When I succeeded in the Governorship Primary Election, I ensured I visited my Co-Aspirants before 8am in the morning, the following day, for dialogue and reconciliation, and I received their supports. The Governor therefore urged all the State/National Assembly Candidates to emulate his style for Unity to reign in the Party”.

“We must not allow cracks in our Party. We must be united. Whoever thinks he could fight the leaders and the Candidates and still win
election is wasting his time. Such a person by this, will have already heard the result of the election. Don’t let us De-Market our Party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) by our comments. We must be united the way we were for the July 14th Governorship Election in the State. I want you to learn from me with the steps I took immediately I won the Governorship Primary and I immediately embarked on Fence-Mending mission to all Aspirants, this is how it should be”, he revealed.

“He advised the Senate, Federal House of Representatives and the State House of Assembly Candidates to respect the Party Leaders and members in their own interests and in the interest of the Party, All Progressive Congress (APC). He enjoined the APC in the State that Unity, Love, Understanding and Cooperation among members remains the criteria for the Party’s Electoral Victory in 2019”.

“He reiterated the readiness of the Presidency to support the State on Developmental Projects as highlighted by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha who represented President Muhammadu Buhari at his Inauguration Ceremony on Tuesday, October 16th, 2018. He urged the APC in the State to support President Muhammadu Buhari in the next general election to clear the Three Senatorial Districts and the Six House of Representatives in the State, for eventual victory during the Presidential elections”.

He promised to revive the Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) created in his first tenure. He also enjoined the Ekiti people to be patient and allow him conquer the challenges associated with the backlog of salaries, pensioners, gratuities, severance allowances for the peaceful atmosphere in the State.

Governor Fayemi promised prompt payment of Worker’s Salaries as at when due. He said Government cannot owe salaries and still impose Levies on the School Children, hence the stoppage of the Tax payment by School Children in both the Primary and Secondary Schools in the State. Fayemi advised the Party members to cooperate with the Reconciliation Committee headed by the Deputy Governor, Chief Bisi Egbeyemi and promised to soon commenced the payment of the Social Security Scheme Fees for the Aged across the State.

Some of the major Party Stakeholder’s and the Chieftain’s of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ekiti State who attended the Town Hall Meetings held at both Ido Ekiti and Ikere Ekiti today included Dr Wole Oluyede, Senator Gbenga Aluko, Honourable Bamidele Faparusi who were Governorship Aspirants in the APC Primary Election, except for Surveyor Abiodun Aluko who was a Governorship Candidate in the July 14th Governorship Election in the State and the Olukere of Ikere Ekiti, Oba Ganiyu Obasoyin who was also in attendance at the Ikere Ekiti Town Hall Meeting.
