Ahead the the People’s Democratic Party’s primaries slated for this weekend and next week, the Governor of Abia state, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has debunked the rumour making the rounds that the party instructed it’s leadership in the states to issue automatic tickets to interested lawmakers going for re election.
Governor Ikpeazu made the clarification during a strategic meeting with Bende stakeholders yesterday in Umuahia.
One of the stakeholders who was present at the meeting told IGBERE TV, on condition of anonymity, that Governor Ikpeazu frowned at the attitude of some aspirants who think the party would do everything for them without working hard to win the heart of the electorates. He also rebuked those spreading the rumour as enemies of the party, charging all aspirants to go to the field and struggle it out with other contenders and prove their popularity.
Quoting the Governor our source said “Ikpeazu made it clear, while briefing the stakeholders, that he has no anointed candidate, stressing that there is nothing like automatic ticket.”
“Everybody should go to the field and whoever the electorates chose will be supported by others” that is what the governor told us.
This development comes as a heavy shock to Hon. Nnenna Ukeje, a third term member of the House of Representatives seeking for a fourth term on the back of ‘Automatic Ticket’ also called ‘Return Return’.
Ukeje has been quoted in the media as saying that the PDP assured her of automatic ticket and therefore didn’t need anybody’s support to secure the party’s ticket.
Unlike in the past where she didn’t have strong opponents, Ukeje is faced with a multi Billionaire oil magnate, Dr. Chima Desmond Anyaso, who appears to be the favourite for the ticket.
Anyaso is young vibrant philanthropist who recently joined politics after conquering the business world at a very young age. He seems to have everything going for him: he is young, rich, connected and is loved by the common masses.
Without manipulation, political observers say Ukeje is no march for Anyaso, which explains her attachment to the ‘Return Return’ phenomena which she has always used in the past to scale through.
IGBERE TV learnt that the Bende stakeholders were led by Secretary to the State Government Dr. Eme Okoro to the meeting.
