President Muhammadu Buhari has given a pass mark to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the peaceful and successful conduct of the just concluded Osun gubernatorial election and charged the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and it’s candidate, Ademola Adeleke to go to court if he feels aggrieved.
The president also congratulated his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Governor-elect of Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola, for winning the governorship race.
This is coming after a joint statement by US, UK and EU observers raising concerns over the conduct of the election, particularly the supplementary rerun held on Thursday.
In a statement signed on Friday by the president’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu and sent to IGBERE TV, President Buhari also congratulated the state and national campaign teams of APC for working assiduously to guarantee the victory at the polls.
Buhari also commended the outgoing Governor Rauf Aregbesola “for eight years of steadfastness and service to his people.”
“Thank you Osun State for supporting our good governance agenda by re-electing the APC. I assure you that we will continue to work for the progress and prosperity of the state and the nation,” he said.
He called on the Governor-elect to always remember that the electorate expects an unreserved commitment to delivering results that directly impact their lives and families.
He added that the successful election in Osun State further strengthens the democratic culture in the country and extolled INEC for, once again, making the country proud.
President Buhari commends the maturity, loyalty and courage of all contestants in putting in their best to be elected to serve the state, urging them to seek redress in court, where they disagree with the outcome.
