A social-cultural group, Multi-Ethnic Gathering (MEG) has described the former Governor of Abia State and Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Orji Kalu as a victim of political witch hunt.
According to the Coordinator of the group, Johnson Udoh, Kalu had created a niche for himself in all spheres of life before venturing into politics.
Udoh, who was in Federal High Court, Ikoyi-Lagos to witness the resumed trial of the former Governor, stressed that Kalu did not commit any financial offence while he held sway as Abia State Governor.
IGBERE TV reports that at the resumed hearing of the case before Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos on Wednesday, Kalu could not open his defence due to time exigency in view of the September 28 deadline given to the Judge, who was recently elevated as a Judge of the Court of Appeal.
Speaking with a cross-section of journalists after the adjournment of the case, Udoh said, “it is not only painful but unpatriotic that Kalu, who had made his money at a young age is being victimised.
” He has continually empowered the people in business and politics.
” The former governor who is a successful business mogul has verifiable source of income.
“He ventured into politics for the sake of impacting lives positively, which he has been doing even outside government.
” During Kalu’s stint as governor, salaries, pensions and other entitlements of workers were paid on or before 24th of every month.
“He granted free education, free health care and scholarship to people of the state.
” Kalu should be respected, appreciated and celebrated for his contributions to the country”.
