The Longest Night By Wisdom Nwedene

The night seems to be longer
I check the time, it’s still 1: 30am
The roof licks, no blanket to even cover myself.

I roll myself to the other side of the bed
It’s wet, tears roll down my cheeks
Can I run away from nature?

It’s impossible….
Adapting to it seems impossible…
Hunger is knocking…

Who will answer?
It dawns on me that I’m living in an abject poverty
The day breaking won’t solve the problem

I’m in dilemma
I want the day to break but where will I go?
Day not breaking, I will languish indoor

With tears in my eyes
I lay back on my bed
Thinking about what tomorrow brings

Three square meals in a day
Is just a dream and a story I do hear
One Zero One is what I can afford
