The senator representing Kogi West in the Senate, Dino Melaye, has written to the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to restore his police security and as well as release his travelling passport seized by the police.
Melaye in the letter dated August 23 urged the IGP to comply with the court order or direct the compliance with the order of the court by releasing his international passports to the law firm of Mike Ozekhome.
He also requested the immediate restoration of policemen posted to protect him, which were withdrawn since April, 2018.
According to an acknowledgement copy of a letter written by Melayeâs counsel, Chief Mike Ozekome (SAN) and signed by deputy head of chambers, Nkem Okoro Esq and received in the IGPâs office, the senator also asked the police to transfer the investigation of the case of the attempt to assassinate him from Kogi Police Command in Lokoja to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The letter reads: âWe write most humbly to intimate your office, of the refusal of the AIG David Igbodo to release our clientâs international passports to him, despite a subsisting court order and letters of demand by our law firm.
âIt is further our clientâs instructions that despite repeated demands for the release of the said international passports, AIG David Igbodo, who is in custody of the passports, has refused and neglected to release same.
âCopies of the letters demanding the release of the international passports of our client are attached herewith and collectively marked as Annexure 2.
âIt is instructive to also note that the withdrawn charge was subsequently filed at the High Court of FCT, where our client has since been granted bail, for which he fulfilled the bail conditions.
