President Muhammadu Buhari may not attend the
campaign rally of Kayode Fayemi, governorship candidate
of the All Progressives Congress (APC) slated for Tuesday,
June 19, in Ekiti state.
Daily Independent reports that a presidency source said
that the Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo, will lead the
delegation to the state on Tuesday, June 19.

The source said: “The president is
expected to close the campaign and not to open it”, which
means he will only attend the grand finale of the
campaign.
“President Buhari will not be at the Ekiti APC rally on
Tuesday. But I can confirm that Vice-President Yemi
Osinbajo will be in attendance.
“The President as the national leader of the party closes
the campaign, he doesn’t open it,” he said.
Fayemi at the mega rally would be officially handed the
party’s flag to contest the governorship election.

The national chairman of the APC, John Odigie-Oyegun,
is also expected at the rally, alongside the chairman of
the APC national campaign committee for the election,
who is also the Kebbi state Governor, Atiku Bagudu.
An earlier statement by the party had said the President
alongside Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who is the head of the
APC’s reconciliation team will attend the rally.
This was contained in a press statement by Wole Olujobi,
director, media and publicity, Kayode Fayemi campaign
organisation on Sunday, June 17.

The statement read in parts: “This is inviting the leaders,
members and supporters of our great party, All
Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti state, to a mega rally
where our governorship candidate, Dr Kayode Fayemi, and
deputy governorship candidate, chief Bisi Egbeyemi, will
formally receive the party’s flag from our national leaders
to contest the July 14, 2018 governorship election in Ekiti
state.
“The event is taking place on Tuesday June 19, 2018 at the
Kayode Oluyemi Stadium, Ado-Ekiti, at 8 am.

“Expected at the rally are President Muhammadu Buhari,
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, national chairman, chief
John Odigie-Oyegun; national leader, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola
Tinubu and other national and state leaders, including our
teeming supporters across the state.
