Kalu’s nomination for the award which will be presented in few hours was in recognition of his contribution in terms of leadership, quality innovation and excellence.
On 14th April,2018, the famous business mogul and philanthropist, Barr Kalu thrilled a selected audience of professionals in Geneva when he presented a brilliant keynote speech on Total Quality Management, and the challenges being faced by Nigerian oil and gas sector .
Speaking on this development, former Governor of Abia State and Chairman SLOK Group, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu said “Although, many Nigerians are bringing back home treasurable gold trophies in sports, Barrister Benjamin Kalu is different and worthy to be recognized and cherished because he is bringing back gold from Switzerland because of his good business leadership and commitment to quality.”

Some of the groups that have made remarkable marks in order to win the award since its creation include, project manager of the tallest skyscraper in the world “The Burj Khalifa Tower” The group in charge of the project is ” Turner Construction International ” which was ranked first in major segments of the construction industry in the world,with an annual construction volume of $8.6 billion. According to report, the company employs 5,000 people all over the world and the president of Turner Construction International Ali H. Odeh once received the B.I.D International Quality ERA Award in Geneva.
Another group that has won the award in the past is India’s No 1 business group by name Tata Group. Report has it that the group has 98 companies and 289,500 employees in six continents. The company’s annual revenue amount to US $28.8 billion and its market capitalization is US$66.26 billion. The Tata group general manager, Ramanathan Natarajan, received the B.I. D world quality commitment award in Paris.
Russia’s No 1 power generating company RAO”UES of Russia ” is another powerful group that had received the B.I. D international star award for quality in Geneva. The group is known for providing 70% of electricity in Russia and has employed 600,000 people. The Ex – deputy – Prime minister of the Russian Federation and vice Chairman of the Board, Sergey Dubinin received the award on behalf of the organization.
Another group which cannot be forgotten that had received the award is Korea’s No1 power generating company known as Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). The group has employed 20,898 people and its assets amount to $73.9 billion. The general manager and CEO of the New York office of Korea Electric power, Don-Jun Kim, received the B.I.D Quality summit Award in New York.
Also, India’s No 1 Industrial group by name ”Reliance Industries “had in the past received the award. The group is ranked No 134 in the fortune global 500 list. This two – edge oriented Indian conglomerate of companies belong to the wealthiest family in the world, the Ambani family. The chief Engineer of Reliance Energy, Dhanajy Deshpande, received the B.I.D International Star for leadership in quality in Paris. The group also received the B.I.D Award in London.
Our correspondent gathered that Barr Benjamin Kalu was warmly received earlier by the Founder of B.I.D Jose E. Prieto who also created and pioneered the concept of Quality Mix. One of the living legends of quality culture.
Also in attendance is Youssef Hallak of Diamond drilling and Alla Ignashchenkova – Neuroscience university of Tuebingen Germany.
Igbere TV learnt that at the final drilling to qualify for the AWARD. BENDE was successful as he received the TQM QC100 certificate.
