A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and former chairman of Bende local government area of Abia state Barr. Benjamin Okezie Kalu has warned that only the people of Abia state will decide if the state governor Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has done enough to deserve a second term.
The philanthropist stated this during a chat with newsmen in Abia state.
He said “in the spirit of equity, if other parts of the state enjoyed the position for eight years, Ukwa/Ngwa block should also be allowed to enjoy it for eight years. That to me is fairness. But that is secondary. If the primary issues are not attended to, which is the people and not about Ukwa/Ngwa and the opportunity to be in that position because there are so many Ukwa/Ngwas. If the governor is looking for second term, it is the decision of the people to make. That decision is not going to be made by Ngwa people alone but the entire Abians.
“When he touches lives, let him touch the lives of all Abia people. If he is making impact, let him make impact across the entire Abia because he is the governor of all Abians. They are the ones to decide. The governor should work hard and make sure that the people will put him back there the second term. If he fails, yes, granted that the Ngwa people deserve eight years, another Ngwa man could come up. And where there is no Ngwa man to come up, other sections of the state can present a credible candidate. That is the truth but personally speaking, I will like the Ngwa man to have a second term. It stayed two terms in Abia Central, two terms in Abia North, now that it is in Abia South, it should stay for two terms if they perform well.
“It is the assessment of the people that will decide if he has performed well. It is also the assessment of the people that will decide if he can go for a second term if her performs well. This time, there is no time to change things outside the will of the people. This time, there is no opportunity, no chance of changing things outside the will of the people. The governor should ensure that the will of the people are behind him. If he is waiting for any other alternative to returning back to government house, I am afraid it will fail him. That is my position as to whether he has performed well or if he can go for second term. It is the people’s decision”, he concluded.
