– ROAD TO BE EXPANDED
– BRAND NEW DRAINAGES
– TO BE LINKED WITH KAMALU ROAD
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s caterpillars will soon roll into Immaculate Road Umungasi off Aba Owerri road for the total reconstruction of the ever busy and popular road in Aba.
Commissioner for Works, Rt. Hon. Eziuche Ubani this morning led top officials of the ministry including the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Jacob Nwala to a meeting with leaders of Umungasi village, residents, business owners and church leaders who operate on the road. The Parish Priest of SS Anthony and Jude Catholic Parish was also part of the meeting which held at the premises of Community Girls Secondary School Umungasi Aba.
The meeting was held to formally inform them that the reconstruction of the road will commence almost immediately and get them prepared for the project.
According to the Commissioner, a major component of the road will be the expansion of the existing width of the road meaning that several buildings which will obstruct the project will have to go. The entire length of the road from the junction at Aba Owerri road all the way down to across the railway crossing will be totally reconstructed to the highest standards.
He also said that the Governor also approved the construction of a bypass to directly link Immaculate Street with Kamalu through Ajiwe Street directly opposite the Catholic Church.
He appealed to the residents to cooperate with the workers and said that the marking and demolition of these illegal structures commences effectively on Monday next week as the contractor handling the project has been fully mobilized.
The people expressed joy at this development and thanked Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for remembering them and ending their long years of suffering as a result of the bad state of the road. They promised to provide every assistance and support to the workers to ensure that the work proceeds smoothly.
Immaculate Road is a very popular and busy road in Aba metropolis. It has been in a very deplorable state for more than a decade. Coupled with human activities and poor environmental practices by the residents, the road has been simply impassable.
The people of Umungasi Village in Amasator Community, Osisioma Ngwa LGA who are ancestral owners of the place were filled with joy as they rolled out their traditional music to welcome the Commissioner and his entourage.
