ABIA state University students have vowed to carry out a mass demonstration against the Abia State governor Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu over the unfortunate death of a student of the University Wilson Chukwudi recently.

ABIA state University students have vowed to carry out a mass demonstration against the Abia State governor Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu over the unfortunate death of a student of the University Wilson Chukwudi recently.

Wilson reportedly committed suicide following the state government’s order to university authorities to bar students owing school fees from exams.

According to online reports, Chukwudi took his own life due to his inability to graduate from school for over two years.

His hope of graduation this session was dashed after Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu ordered the university authorities to bar students who could not pay their school fees from writing exams.

The governor’s action was widely condemned as wicked and insensitive by the general public considering the fact that the Abia State government is currently owing civil servants several months salary backlog which made it impossible for parents to pay the fees.

Some of Wilson’s friends in school took to Facebook to mourn him. one njoku wrote;

”Today was a very bad day for me, I feel so empty and keep on asking myself while life is so unfair. I never imagined that I will hear such story today. Oh my God why? Hmmmm Willson Chukwudi why did you do this to us,you broke our heart and made us wonder why you will take away your own life, you didn’t remember all the sufferings of your parents and people who are hopeful because of your life, for whatever you went through is not worth taking your own Life. We your colleagues can’t stop crying over this bad incident, if we had seen this coming believe me we would have saved you from committing suicide today. Rest on brother with tears till we meet to part no more.

Some ABSU students who spoke to Igbere TV on the development said that the students are planning to embark on Mass demonstration to protest against the death of their colleague.

Uchechi MBA, a 300 level student of Mass Communication said “as much as we condemn Wilson’s act of taking his own life, we put the blame squarely on the desk of Governor Ikpeazu. Why would he bar students from writing exams when he has not paid salaries of our parents for more than 6months? ”

Uche Okafor, 400 level Political Science said “Ikpeazu must be held responsible for Chukwudi’s death. We will go on the streets to tell the world what is happening in Abia state. This is the height of wickedness. ”

Kingsley O. Ufomba simply said “Enough is enough, Ikpeazu must go! ”

Igbere TV will keep an eye on the  development and bring you updates as events unfold.
